Hello Readers!
Super Happy Holidays to everyone! (even though its a bit delayed). Today I will catch you all up on whats been happening with my gaming situation since Christmas and New Years is over. So for the holidays I received a super sexy Limited Edition Playstation 4 and quite frankly I was blown away by the changes from the previous console. On top of this I also received a few PS4 exclusive games like God of War Remastered, Bloodborne, and The Order 1886. Now I know the Playstation 4 has already been out for quite some time, but I have to say I have not been this impressed with a console since the Xbox 360 of last generation.
Just so everyone is aware, I have always preferred to game on an Xbox simply because connectivity and multiplayer was more stable, and the fact that Xbox had more exclusive titles than its competitors. So it is extremely insane that I was able to transition from Xbox One to PS4 so smoothly. I am unbiased with my consoles so last generation I also purchased a PS3 but I found it to be more of a paperweight after I had fun with the handful of exclusives that were released. Now that all the dust has settled and I am comfortable gaming on the new PS4 console, I have to say Sony did everything RIGHT! They seemed to take lots of notes on what was lacking on the PS3 and completely revamped the console to be a gaming powerhouse. From the simple things like being able to eject the disk from the controller, sharper graphics and higher resolution, to more complex tasks like downloading multiple games or files simultaneously the PS4 can handle it all with ease.
It was amazing to have a brand new game install in under 5 minutes on the console and allow me to play the game while the updates downloaded in the background automatically. To me this was a dream since I was so used to waiting like a half hour or longer for an install/ update on Xbox One when I first put in a new game. Another amazing feature is the ability to charge your controller with the included USB cable or basically any compatible standard USB charging cable. It is awesome to finally be able to play and not have to worry about buying a separate battery pack or switching out old batteries. And finally one of the main features that truly separates the PS4 from other consoles is the “share play” feature, that allows you to invite a friend to spectate your live game or even allow them to take control of your game (if you want them to) through an internet connection. This feature truly shocked me when I first used it. I was able to play Street Fighter IV (which I did not own) with my cousin from my console with no downloading of any kind. We were even able to play locally in his game using this same feature. This feature in my opinion felt like the future of gaming. Being able to play a game that I did not even own with friends simply by connecting through “share play” was absolutely astounding and really shows that gaming can be taken to the next level by allowing other players in on the action, even if they don’t have the same game.
Now just to be clear I am not hating on Xbox One or anything, it really is a great console, but when compared to my experience on PS4, the PS4 had the edge every time. It reminded me so much of the Xbox 360, not so much in design but in its base features and functionality, which is just awesome since the 360 did many things well. It really feels like the developers of the PS4 truly focused on the video games and not the extra entertainment bells and whistles. Either way I will still be gaming on both consoles but for the time being I am enjoying the PS4 to the max. In the next few weeks I will be posting up my reviews for the new games I have been playing on the PS4 and all the new and exciting titles coming out in this first quarter of the year, so stay tuned for those posts.
*Side Note: All the things I mentioned here about the PS4 in comparison to the Xbox One are all based off of my experience as a gamer with both consoles and my struggles being a big time Xbox supporter. My comments are not intended to offend or disrespect gamers who prefer either console but to reveal to the gamers who do not know what cool features are available on the Playstation 4.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post and I hope you enjoyed reading it, and I hope you all had a fantastic holiday.
